Growing up in a inner-city area in the UK isn’t easy. Last year, my colleague Heidi Frankl & i set out to find out what the social reality of kids in London is. Since then things haven’t really changed. Gun crime amongst ‘ghetto’ kids is still a big problem (the last couple of months saw a spate of brutal killings of teenagers), but so is stereotyping & racism. I wonder what kind of light this sheds on a society that’s entranced by consumerism & cctv?
This aired in January 2006 on Tracks (arte), featuring grime-stars like the the Roll Deep Crew, Lethal B and more.
