Recht auf Ausbildung!

May 30, 2008

A couple of weeks ago i covered a demonstration of about 200 pupils, on their way through the center of Berlin. Their mission: Hand over a petition to the members of the German parliament, the Bundestag. There’s currently about 1,5 million youngsters in Germany desperately looking for in-firm training for all sorts of jobs – but these days very few companies are willing to train the workforce of tomorrow. So these kids got over 75,000 people to sign their petition for a law to guarantee training. Hope some sort of legislation will be passed soon, or many young people will end up untrained, in dead-end jobs with sh*t wages.

Berlin IS the center of the art world.

yes, it\'s oil on canvas...

These days one constantly reads about Berlin being the center of the art world, the eye of the storm of global artistic creativity and originality. What a load of crap, i kept thinking. Then, one Sunday i came across this in one of the many Berlin flea-markets. In this painting of Tokio Hotel’s Tom Kaulitz i immediately felt the suggestion of a narrative intent, an echo of socialist realism – clearly, the work of one of the many geniuses in town. The MoMA better track this one down. I think it was oil on canvas.

Passport-Control 2007

Passkontrolle Berlin Tegel

This counter at Tegel Airport immigration won’t see many Africans in the future – at least not ones seeking asylum or simply a better life in Europe – if some pencil pushers in Brussels and Zurich have their way. The European Union and the Swiss Government have just produced a tv-ad to be shown on primetime Nigerian and Cameroonian television. The ad is intended to discourage anybody from even hoping for a piece of the cake across the Mediterranean. What f***wit exactly came up with this idea i don’t know but it’s clearly evil and at the same time very ridiculous.

2006

December 18, 2006

just went through the pictures i took this year – and realized that quite a few (actually: too many) things happenend this year. things i would have forgotten about, had i not had that little digital camera. and all of a sudden a discussion i had with my flatmate a while ago came to mind. he argued that  the widespread use of digital technology in capturing and storing pics & video wasn’t changing our perception of memory. i didn’t quite agree. still don’t ;) anyway, i’ll post a list of things that happened this year & are worth remembering. just a little help for my memory. not that you lot gave a shit…..
